Review of a Music video.

Here i am going to do a review of a music video i saw over the weekend. I will be looking at the use of Camera, Mise en Scene and editing closely in some of the scenes of the music video

The opening starts of with a variety of shots which tells us what is going to be included in the video. It then jumps to the credits and introduces the artist Ariana Grande and Big sean who is featured on the video.

The video cuts to a mid shot of the Artist herself and is introduced as Juliet which tells us that the video is going to have an illustration narrative as the video is telling a story of Romeo and Juliet.

We see a close up shot of Romeo in which he seems quite excited and ready to party, this breaks the traditional storyline and shows a modernised version.

Here is a wide shot of the character Romeo and his friends in a car en route to the party.

There is another mid shot of the main artist.

The featured artist is then introduced through the credits. There is a shot of him walking and then taking of his fur jacket this again breaks the tradition as priests don't normally wear expensive fur jackets.

This is a High angle shot of Romeo who is looking up to Juliet. This may suggest that she has all the power and has everything Romeo wants.

We get a mid shot of the featured artist.

                                                                     MISE EN SCENE

In this scene we have the featured artist 'The priest' sitting on the chair. He has a cross necklace in his hand as one of the props. We also see other religious objects in the background.

The costume is a traditional Victorian dress. This highlights the Romeo and Juliet storyline.

The main artist costume is also a traditional dress.
We see a low angle shot of the main artist and a clear shot of the setting.

Here we can see Romeo wearing a traditional outfit and has found a way to get into the party with his friends.

This is a close up shot of Romeo. Here we can see his facial expressions and mesmorised by how beautiful Juliet looks.

Here we see another Low angle shot which then goes onto a mid shot of the main artist which in this case is Juliet. Different shots are used to make the her the centre of attention.

We again see a Low angle shot of Juliet to highlight her importance in the video.

Another Low angle shot.

This is another mid shot of Juliet, she is seen singing in a the pool which again shows a kind of modernised version of the Romeo and Juliet story.

Panning is used here to highlight the setting.

The Featured artist is seen wearing a white top surrounded by candles. This highlights his role in the video. White is often a sign of tranquillity which is portrayed in religion.

Wide shot of both Romeo and Juliet. juxtaposition is used to highlight the traditional side to the story and also the modern era.

Lastly we see a wide shot of the setting and the main artist. Juliet is seen having a wonderful time with Romeo and again are centre of attention.
